Last night was a party for the auction volunteers - it was a good opportunity to kick back and get to know people a little better. I won a door prize of a big bag of food from a local health store - so I will share it with my colleagues!
Although it was unplanned, arriving early and working at the auction was a real benefit - In a very short time I have met people I am really enjoying stopping and chatting with and I feel completely comfortable here already.
Today was the first full day of work. My team was set to clean and ready the dining room and kitchen for the session. I met my teacher, although we haven't actually met as a class yet. At orientation they gave a quick description of the classes and teachers, and it sounds like this is really going to be a great class.

Made it to Penland
I arrived here at about 2:00. The 2 day drive was actually relatively pleasant after getting through the deluge in Connecticut and NJ. I'm really taken by the vastness and beauty of the countryside - the hills and mountains and farm country are.... well... really beautiful.
Fun traveling facts:
Gettysburg is halfway between Boston and Bakersville, NC
The sign on route 81 in Pennsylvania marking the Mason Dixon line is kind of sad looking
It's still jarring to me to see trucks with the confederate flag on their mudflaps!
Tennessee is very proud of its musical heritage as evidenced by a big giant guitar near the visitor's center - I can't download the picture, you'l just have to believe me
There were others, but I've since forgotten them
The final hour of the trip was up the mountain on an incredible winding road.
Today was Penland's big auction - I arrived in its final couple of hours. I got put to work immediately sorting out pieces bought at the auction. My first bonding experience!
The people are extremely friendly and it was great fun - and really hot!
The views are amazing!

Getting Ready for North Carolina
Hi all
It's almost time to leave for my little adventure to North Carolina to try my hand at clay instruments.
Here's a picture of a drum I made several years ago -I made it with coils and then it was fired in a pit fire. It has since cracked, but I still like it a lot
